In this clip, a famous samurai general Kusunoki disguised as a kabuki actor after he lost a battle and attempted to escape. He was captured by the enemy force, headed by the reluctant Ashikaga Takauji. He was interrogated and ordered to perform a kabuki show. Without hesitation, he got up and put on a kabuki comedy. He was freed. The pretty girl behind him was 樋口可南子 (ひぐち かなこ) Higuchi Kanako. For Taiga fans, she also played the mother of Atsuhime (2008). The big lady was a famous Japanese saprano singer. (anyone who knows his name please educate us). The interrogator was no other than our favorite Sanada Hiroyuki. Hiroyuki played the reluctant enemy general Ashikaga Takauji who was actually a sympathizer for Kusunoki and would use any excuse to release Kusunoki. Kusunoki was played by Takeda Tetsuya, who actually majored in special education in college to help handicapped kids.... just some trivia for Taiga fans. These Taiga actors and actresses are very talented, educated and brought a lot to the drama world. Much of the American concept of samurai is only about chopping and swords fights. But this clip demonstrated the lighter side of samurais. No copyright infringement intended. NHK Taiga jidaigeki docudrama DVDs are the greatest resource for history lovers.
